Allergen Immunotherapy

Allergen Immunotherapy

Allergen Immunotherapy (AIT) is the only disease-modifying treatment for Allergic diseases.

There are 3 types of immunotherapy:

1. Subcutaneous immunotherapy: It is administered in the doctor's office subcutaneously according to a protocol where doses of the allergen administered iare increased gradually. Patients should be observed in the doctor's office for 30 minutes after administration

2. Sublingual immunotherapy: Drops are administered at home, under the tongue

3. Oral sublingual tablets to few specific allergens: fairly new.

All above options are efficient. The choice of administration route depends on the allergen and on patient's preference.

The duration of AIT is for 3 to 5 years

The long-lasting effect may be up to 7 to 10 years.
