Additional Information

Epinephrine

Epinephrine is the first-line treatment for anaphylaxis, a severe and potentially life-threatening allergic reaction. This self-injectable medication is approved by the FDA as a safe and highly effective medication that can reverse severe allergy symptoms.

How to use an Epinephrine Auto-injector

To be most effective, epinephrine must be administered quickly during an anaphylactic reaction. A delay could lead to death, especially one of 30 minutes or more.

People with food allergies and their families should know how to respond to a severe allergic reaction. By making sure you have all of the information you need and practicing with the training device, you will be well prepared to use the auto-injector when anaphylaxis occurs.

Be prepared

If your allergist prescribes epinephrine, it is normal to be nervous about learning how to properly use the auto-injector. Keep in mind that thousands of people have successfully learned to use these devices—and with practice, you will, too. Knowing that you are prepared for an emergency will give you peace of mind.

Ask your doctor for training

Your Doctor can help you use the auto-injector prescribed for you. The device manufacturer’s website will also provide detailed information and instructions.
